It’s Official!

Five months ago i3 Detroit was started based on a vision that was inspired by the many other hackerspaces building and growing throughout the world. This inspiration found itself only with a website and a call out to all Detroit area makers, crafters, coders, artists and thinkers to come together to build a new community space and environment. Five months and a dozen dedicated members later we have finally been able to secure a home for this new community called i3 Detroit.

As of today i3 Detroit has secured a space at 322 E. 4th St. in Royal Oak Mi. We will be working hard over the next couple of weeks to build out our new creative environment. Once we have finalized the space we will be hosting a Grand Opening Event please stay tuned for more details.

Here are some photos of the new space and we will continue to post new photos as we make the space our own.

Congratulations Team for making this happen!

Great article about the A2 Mini Maker Faire & i3 Detroit

i3 Detroit would like to Thank Dave Askins for writing a great article about the A2 Mini Maker Faire and i3 Detroit in The Ann Arbor Chronicle.

“It was “the world’s largest brush bot,” according to Matt Switlik. Switlik was at the event for i3 Detroit, demonstrating the super-sized version of a brush bot, which are typically made from cell-phone vibrators and toothbrush heads. In addition to the giant brush bot, i3 Detroit had a table-top arena where conventionally sized brush bots were milling about.”

A2 Mini Maker Faire

Developers, artists, and enthusiasts will display their ideas at the first Ann Arbor “Mini” Maker Faire, August 29, 2009, at the Washtenaw County Fair Grounds.

Location: Washtenaw farm council fairgrounds
Hours: open to the public 10 AM – 5 PM Saturday August 29, 2009
Website: http://www.a2makerfaire.com

Organized by members of the Ann Arbor tech and arts communities such as a2geeks and GO-Tech, this “Mini” Maker Faire is a small, local version of the huge Bay-area Faire, the newfangled fair that brings together science, art, craft, and engineering, and music, in a fun, energized, and exciting public forum.
