This page is for planning i3's participation at the 2011 Penguicon.

Brad and Roger (Karen, where were you?) met and came up with this so far: Brainstorm thoughts in no particular order ...

Green Room

Open 24 hours with scheduled activities:

3 pm - 8 pm Friday
9 am - 8 pm Saturday
9 am - 3 pm Sunday
Note that these are planned available hours, not committed hours.

We have a budget from Penguicon of $500 for anything needed.

Hands-on workshops

  • How to Solder - Mitch / Jimmy, maybe have twice
  • Creative mending class
  • Oscilloscope class
  • Using the Cloud (e.g., Amazon S3 vs Google vs ?)
  • Intro to PCB layout and design with FreePCB - Trevor[0]

Open "office hours" when not scheduled for workshop - who will staff?

Contests

  • Contests for skills, e.g., assembling an electronics kit, sewing something
  • Contests for creativity, e.g., give people a bunch of stuff and make something
  • Prizes related to the topic of the contest
  • Make unique prizes like a soldering iron holder trophy cast from someone's hand
  • An "Anything But Ethernet" communication contest

Arduino - Custom Arduino circuit boards with i3 printed / etched on them - First to do something or one of a choice of things using an arduino (or other thing)

AVR - AVR programming challenge (ideas?)

Relay Race (Matt)

  1. Pick a Padlock
  2. Link Buckyballs
  3. Hula-Hoop helicopter course

Suite

A mini-i3

  • Showcase projects
  • Post large pictures of i3 to form a "virtual i3" space
  • Video composite of events we've held/attended. - Needs video and photos from everyone (Nate_LapT)

Open 3 pm Fri - 3 pm Sun

Parties

Two room parties from 9 pm to 3 am (or when drinks run out!)

  • Need a dedicated bartender for each party, nit just "shifts" (Roger for one?)
  • Music from Ammo Box or Pirate Box

Other Activities

Things to get people to interact:

  • Vinyl cutter: let people customize and make something to show off?
  • Makerbot: let people customize and make something to show off?
  • i3no (read it out loud)
  • Write on your friend's forehead and upload picture for prizes (or was this just for the party?)
  • QR Challenge - Ribbons for those who complete the challenge. (Yeh,ney?)

  • Skeeball in hallway (Matt promises it will be ready!)
