=== Background ===

i3Detroit won a grant application from [http://www.edsfund.org/ EDSFUND.org] to cover 40% ( = $5700) of the cost of an order from Tormach CNC. As part of the grant we're working on a bicycle-based flywheel energy storage system that we will manufacture using a Tormach PCNC 1100 with rotary table attachment. What this means for i3 is that members will gain access to 4-axis milling, something currently not available in the CNC Zone or in the Metal Shop. The i3 members on the EDSFUND grant team are leading a fundraising effort to come up with the remaining $8600 needed to pay for the Tormach CNC equipment. The grant team also needs the membership to share their thoughts on where Tormach would fit best into the space available in the CNC Zone. More will be coming on the fundraising soon, but for now please take some time to look through this survey on the floor plan!

This bicycle finds its roots in the 70's.  Named the Free Spirit, it has great potential for the flywheel energy storage project, spinning the past into the future.  The Free Spirit will be the frame used to test our first prototype.
