Intro
This is a more involved process of powder coating, which requires a bit more setup, but hopefully easier usage and better results overall. The powder is fluidized in the chamber and then picked up the tube using a venturi pump and sent to then gun. It gives the user the ability to really dial in and tune the powder as it travels and exits the gun.
Rules
Like any other equipment in the space, the same rules apply here. Please only use the equipment if you are authorized. Please clean up after yourself, if you don't have time to clean, you didn't have time to start. And most importantly, if something gets broken, let the group know, or fix it!
Instructions
PRE-SETUP SUGGESTION: Turn the booth exhaust fan and light on once you start handling the powder.
1. Don't change the colors in the canisters. We have 3 and they are meant for black, white and clear coats only.
2. Make sure the gun is cleaned out before and after use, compressed air can be used to blow out the gun.
3. Prepare the canister by hooking up to the compressed air, set the regulator to no more than ~5-10 psi unless you want powder exploding on you. (The canisters have holes in them so there's no pressure build-up, but they can get messy)
4. Adjust the pressure regulator on the bottom until the powder is fluidized (looks like it is at a "soft rolling boil" / should act like water)
5. Once that's set, you can then take the gun and turn on the power to the control box on top.
6. While pointing into the booth, pull the trigger on the gun and adjust the two regulators on the venturi pump until your desired powder flow is achieved, starting with the one on the back first.
7. That's it!
Maintenance Info
Not really sure what the maintenance is going to be like on this yet. I don't think it will be much, just take off the powder tube before, but mostly after, and blow out any excess powder from the gun. If we get multiple tubes for the different canisters, all we have to do is clean the gun in reality.
HARDWARE: - 8mm tubing-1/8" threaded control valves (canister plumbing) - Still need to determine exact size used for powder flow tubing.
FAQ
What exact powders are we using for each canister? 1. Eastwood Hot Rod black (currently only a small amount for testing but should change to more generic black) 2.N/A 3.N/A
ToDo
-Get tubing for the other two canisters that isn't already tainted with color. Not sure what size it is exactly, maybe about 1/2-3/4"
-Nozzle rinsing tube needs to be added in to the gun (this is one probable reason it was spurting powder) needs air washing over it from this port, probably also needs a separate regulator for adjustment. It's the only port on the gun with nothing currently attached.
-Open up electronics and verify and label which knob does Voltage and which does Amps
-Secure extra fuses so they aren't just floating in the box.
-While in the electronics, flip the wiring on the potentiometers so they make more intuitive sense when turning them. Currently turning left increases and right decreases.
-Re-print the magnetic mounts with better filament, the PLA is starting to sag from temps in the space.
