HOWTO Refill Welding Gas Bottles

Gas bottles in the Welding Zone are refilled by members. We have cylinders of CO2, O2, acetylene, 100% argon (TIG), and mixed CO2 and argon (MIG).

Expectations

  • If a cylinder runs out while you are using it, take it to be refilled or mention it on Slack.
  • Don't leave a surprise empty tank for the next member.

Make The Swap

  • Take the tank over to one of the shops (Linde/PraxAir on Dequindre near 13 Mile recommended)
  • Leave the tank in your car
  • Go into the store and tell the counter person you are with i3Detroit (we're tax free) and you need to swap out an argon/acetylene/etc tank
  • Per their instructions, drive around, do the swap
  • Go back inside to pay (if you know the size, you can pay prior to the swap
  • Take a picture of the receipt and go to i3detroit.org/reimbursement and do the thing, if you want to get reimbursed. If you'd rather it just be a donation, skip this step
  • If you can't float the money, reach out to the Treasurer to arrange having them call and pay over the phone.
