Prohibited Activities Proposal

Per discussions at the second Tuesday member meeting of May, Matt C. proposes a banned activities section be added to the Standing Rules to include the following:

Activities prohibited by law or regulation or otherwise included in this list may not be performed by members or guests on i3Detroit's premises or with i3Detroit's tools including, but not limited to the following:

  1. Automotive work
  2. Production or modification of firearms or firearm parts which require registration with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF)
  3. Brewwing or distillation of alcohol.

If a member is interested in performing these types of activities at the space, or has a question about something not on the list, they are welcome to discuss this desire with the board. The board can provide further details on why the activity is prohibited (building code limitations, legal or safety concerns, etc.) and if/how the member can go about making this possible.

Proposal:
Amend the standing rules to include the above rule

Result: PASS

This is not meant as an exhaustive list, but a starting point from which we can build as needed.

  • Nate points out that there are other things that are prohibited by law that aren't on the list, like homebrewing.
  • Evan adds that because this now creates a list of prohibited thigns, implying everything else is allowed.
  • Jody suggests we add "anything prohibited by law."
  • Ted the list should be a superset of things are are legal but prohibited by us and things that are illegal
  • Sean: Suggests adding Anything prohibited by law or regulation including, but not limited to the things above.
  • Nate: At Familab, they say "If it's illegal outside the space, it's illegal inside the space. It's not an embassy."

Laser Zone

  • Apologies that Bumblebee is still down. Mike has been busy and Roger has been out of town. Mike is planning to try to get it diagnosed this week and hopefully initiate a warranty replacement soon if that is required (which seems likely).
  • Also, if anyone's interested in learning more about how the lasers work/helping out Mike would very much appreciate the help. He may not do this forever.
  • Evan adds that both small lasers in the Fab Lab, Chinesium and Full Spectrum laser work. Chineseium takes G-code and the Full Spectrum works like a windows printer.

Welding Zone

  • Upcoming class: intro to welding. Class is full, but a couple people can observe.
  • For more classes, email Welding@ or come see us in the Slack channel.

Wood Shop

  • Vivian: In the wood shop, please utilize the several vacuums we have to clean up the tools and floors.
  • David adds the dust collector, while loud and annoying, does work and should really be used with all the tools it is connected to.
  • Nate tells a story about the awesome members who originally got the dust collector and set it up with all of the tools, and the only thing you have to do to use it is press the button to turn it on.

SIGs
