Old Business

Changing Policy For Non-payment Of Dues

Summary of conversation on slack to-date is that we change the due date of dues to the 15th of the month. Also, that it we change the policy to allow for a member's access (specifically storage plot & keys) to be shut off sometime after 30 days after non-payment. There would be at least two automatic notifications to the member during this grace period. One within some amount of time after the missed payment (48 hours? one week?) and another within a short period before the grace period expires (also 48 hours? or one week?). It might look something like this: "If you miss a dues payment, you may lose access to key/storage 30 days after that missed payment. You will be notified within <48 hours/one week> after that missed payment. You will be notified again within <48 hours/one week> of the 30 day deadline."

  • Paul: From the Bylaws, after lack of payment,
  • Nate suggests that turning off someone's key could maybe be considered a form of notification.
  • Mike thinks being suddenly locked out of the space could turn out really poorly when it isn't expected.
  • David: Why not implement a key problem light?
  • Mel: Right now our system is extremely old and incapable of doing that, but a good idea.
  • Someone: Adding to the bylaws specifically email as a method of notification is a good idea
  • Mel would like to propose this policy as an amendment to the Bylaws.
  • Nate points out that ending membership doesn't have to happen at the same time as key turning off.
  • Mel: After this discussion, the proposed policy is:
If this corporation has provided for the payment of dues by members, upon a failure to renew his or her membership by paying dues on or before their due date, such termination may be effective thirty (30) days after a written notification of delinquency is given personally or emailed to such member by the corporation. A member may avoid such termination by paying the amount of delinquent dues within a thirty (30) day period following the member's receipt of the written notification of delinquency.
Proposal:
Adopt the above as ammendment to Article 3, Section 10.2 of the Bylaws

NOMcon Debriefing

  • POC: Jody
  • Jody, Matt C, and Tony went out to Santa Fe for the Nation of Makers Convention. After the meeting, Tony, Matt, and Jody will be offering their report to the membership regarding their June trip to NOMcon immediately following the meeting. Please bring any questions or comments for the trio. (aiming for the classroom, unless there are too many people or the classroom is in use)

New Business

Asterisk PBX

  • The space phone system no longer sends voicemail to the mailing list. If anyone is familiar or want's to investigate, go for it.
  • Nate: giving the space phone number to $Local_Govenrment_Official recently, we discovered that this hasn't been working for a while.
  • Alec literally just fixed the same problem on another Asterix system so he'll take a look at it.
Action Item: Alec - Fix the voicemail-to-email thing

Zone updates

Electronics Lab

  • Some of ELab overflow up on the west mezzanine violates fire code. Nate needs some help at Potlock to remove and reorganize some things up there.

Machine Shop

  • If anyone wants to help out in the machine shop, get ahold of Tony because he could use some help.

Welding Zone

  • There are some new blades for the Metal Miter Saw. Please try and use the correct blade for the material. We're still trying to figure out an appropriate "price per cut" amount. The kinder you are to the blades (go slow, let the blade do the work, don't hog the cut, etc), the cheaper it will end up being!
  • If you're interested in a welding class, or just have welding questions, message Jody on slack or send him and email, or just grab his ear when you see him. He's very helpful.

Wood Shop

  • Vivian found the wood shop sander left all cruddy, and reminds everyone to be mindful and clean up after yourself, and budget your time so you have time to do so.

COWBELL

Meeting Metrics

  • Time completed: 8:25
