Maker Faire is Coming Up!

  • Start thinking about projects you've made or you hope you will have made that you'd like to show off at Maker Faire!
  • We also need a lot of volunteers to help out with the tent.
  • We'll also have a section of the tent for vendors.
  • Nate offers help and feedback on how to present and write up any projects you have that you'd like to show off.

Pets clause added to standing rules

  • We have only had a handful of incidents in the last ten years with pets being a problem to members or other members' pets.
  • We should have a policy so it is unambiguous what is expected from our members to be responsible with their pets.

Discussion:

  • Nate: Has this been a problem? He has observed many dogs here over the years with no issue.
  • Mel: Yes, her dog arrived at the space on a leash when another dog was not, and others had to intervene quickly to prevent an incident when it seemed that the unleashed dog was acting aggressively.
  • Jamie: It's common in most places to require a leash for pets. Aggression issues can be exacerbated when one dog is on a leash and another isn't.
  • Mark: does not want to be responsible for keeping a dog from eating lead off the E-Lab floor.
  • Jody: Ferndale does have a leash law for public spaces.
  • Justin: Should we specify the length of the leash?
  • David: We should address that if it becomes a problem a problem.

Proposal:
Amend the Standing Rules Safety section from:

4. This understanding must be obeyed and any members or guests in the work area who may be affected must be made aware (such as a verbal request to put on safety equipment or relocate to avoid breathing fumes).

5. Members must not allow unsafe practices by any guest or other member.
