COVID Policy

  • Overview:
    • Delegate someone [president] the authority to update rules as guideline change vs. require a member vote each time to make changes to policy.
    • If we don't give the president or someone else to make changes without a member vote, wouldn't we need to shut the space down if we're in violation of the laws until we can update the policy.
    • In theory we have a clause that indicates if our policy is in conflict with the laws, the laws will supersede the policy. It is unknown how this can effectively be enforced. This clause no longer appears in the standing rules.
  • Proposal 1 - Just changes mask policy based on current CDC recommendations
    • Change Bullet 1 in Covid 19 Policy to:
      • Mask Policy: Masks are required to be worn at all times while at the space. This applies to vaccinated & unvaccinated individuals
    • Exceptions:
      • If you reasonably believe that you are the only person at the space, wearing a mask is optional. However, if you become aware of another, all parties must don masks immediately.
      • You may take your mask off to eat or drink, but be reasonable about it. (No pizza parties at the space, etc)
  • Proposal 2 - Allows President to switch between 2 different mask policies as CDC Risk designation changes
    • Change Bullet 1 in Covid 19 Policy to:
      • Mask policy: i3 will follow the CDC recommendations on wearing masks indoors, as interpreted & communicated by the president. The President (or designee) will announce any changes to the policy via the announce mailing list and make sure the signs on the door stating the current policy are updated."
        • Low or Moderate risk level: Masks are required when you will be working within 6 feet of someone else for 15 minutes or more. This applies to both vaccinated & unvaccinated individuals.
          • Members working within 6 feet of each other for 15 minutes or more may consent to remaining mask-less if there is affirmative consent.
          • Members running a class may require proof of vaccination to attend unmasked, and given proof of vaccination may run and attend a class without a mask. Those who do not wish to disclose their vaccination status may attend, but must remain masked.
        • Substantial or High risk level: Masks are required to be worn at all times while at the space.
  • Proposal 3 - Allows President to make mask policy whatever they want based on CDC recommendations
    • Change Bullet 1 in Covid 19 Policy to:
      • Mask policy: i3 will follow the CDC recommendations on wearing masks indoors, as interpreted & communicated by the President. The President (or designee) will announce any changes to the below policy via the announce mailing list and make sure the signs on the door stating the current policy are updated.
        • Current Mask Policy: Masks are required to be worn at all times while at the space. This applies to vaccinated & unvaccinated individuals.
  • Proposal 4 - Allows President to make mask policy whatever they want based on state/local laws
    • Change Bullet 1 in Covid 19 Policy to:
      • Mask policy: i3 will follow all state & local laws (City of Ferndale, Oakland County) on wearing masks indoors, as interpreted & communicated by the president. The President (or designee) will announce any changes to the below policy via the announce mailing list and make sure the signs on the door stating the current policy are updated.
        • Current Mask Policy: Masks are required when you will be working within 6 feet of someone else for 15 minutes or more. This applies to both vaccinated & unvaccinated individuals.
          • Members working within 6 feet of each other for 15 minutes or more other may consent to remaining mask-less if there is affirmative consent.
          • Members running a class may require proof of vaccination to attend unmasked, and given proof of vaccination may run and attend a class without a mask. Those who do not wish to disclose their vaccination status may attend, but must remain masked.
  • Discussion
    • Paul: Would like a less restrictive mask policy. The waiver indicates that we're responsible for our own behavior.
    • William: This reduces bureaucracy.
    • Mel: Public health is not always aligned with personal risk or responsibility. Those not eligible for the vaccine or are at a higher risk mean we should be aligned to that.
    • Paul: There is a study on asymptomatic spread.
    • Evan: Favors less bureaucracy by delegating someone to make updates and follow CDC guidelines.
    • Jamie: These are all of the options, not all may need to get voted on. The more challenging we make updates, the more work will be involved.
    • Mike: As the current laws are less restrictive than the current policy, it would prevent following CDC recommendations.
  • Bring the proposals to vote
    • Proposal 2: Proposed by Evan Seconded by Paul F
    • Proposal 3: Proposed by Mel Seconded by William
    • Proposal 4: Proposed by Paul A Seconded by William
  • Straw Poll for 2 vs 3 as they are quite similar indicates Proposal 3 was much more popular than 2, so we will only vote on 3 and 4
  • Voting:
