Meeting Location

Meeting was Called to Order At: 7:32pm

Hybrid Meeting Etiquette

  • Be excellent.
  • Attendance and voting can be found in the #meetings slack channel.
  • Please show up early if you are concerned about your audio.
  • If there is no one waiting to speak feel free to do so at the next opportunity.
  • If there is someone waiting to speak, please say that you are raising your hand in the google call chat. (This will be demonstrated)
  • Please refrain from other side conversations, these can be distracting for the rest of the meeting and make it difficult for the chair to keep track of what's going on.
  • If you're in the space remember that having a single person speaking at a time is helpful for those attending online.

Introductions

What does being excellent at i3 mean

An experienced member explains what being excellent at i3 means to them

Experienced Members

Brian: Putting your tools away is always a good one. The stuff you grab from the tool crib goes back to the tool crib, so the next person who needs it can find it. Andrew: Another way to look at it is tools should have homes, and if there's a tool without a home, we should find a home for it.

New Members & Guests

If you see a problem you can fix, fix it, address it.

Show and Tell

New CRM

  • Board updated $ allocated for new system so we can start moving over to it
  • Will move over to new system slowly, a few people at a time, to make sure everything goes smoothly and is working. Then we'll bring a larger group on, continue making sure everything is ok... then finally move everything over and retire the current CRM
  • We are ready to move forward with this now -- making sure everyone is aware of this

Build Out and Other Materials: Label them? Find a home?

Lots of stuff out and around that's connected to build outs in some way, or is questionable in what it is / where it belongs / what it should be used for -- should we start issuing parking tickets to them? Do we want these things to be labeled?

  • Jeff: these things should be clearly labeled. If it can't be condensed into the zone it belongs to, it gets labeled.
  • Thomas: What if we were to take stuff like the vacuum former and injection molding stuff and put it above where we have a whole bunch of filament in the mezzanine?
  • Jeff: If there's not currently an injection molding zone, it's just taking up space. The board can vote to get rid of it / put it where we want.
  • Aj: We can move around the stuff currently in injection molding, compact it and organize it better, and create a lot of room where we can start putting build out materials, etc. -- Emerson and I are also looking into cleaning up the mezzanine on A-side that currently has a whole bunch of misc. stuff, hopefully getting rid of a lot of stuff and better organizing the stuff that stays, and then there should be more space up there
  • Jan: Would it make sense to have another form we can put on stuff that's just space property, like another color paper to go with parking permits and tickets?
  • Paul: One of the other spaces that copied our parking ticket / permit system added a blue paper for that purpose
  • Aj: Can we just grab a blue paper and put labels and notes on stuff now, even without approving a new form of permit? (Brian echoed this)
  • David: Cautioned that we may be focusing on the wrong problem, and putting a lot of time and effort into this instead of working on the actual build outs.

Daily Detroit Podcast Visit

James O: Daily Detroit Podcast: interested in checking out i3 and getting a tour. He'd likely need help with this, thinking sometime in June.

Paint Zone

  • The tall flammable cabinet has been cleaned out, organized, and everything in it has been labeled (General, Jan 2025)
  • From now on, anything put in the flammable cabinets should be labeled. If it isn't labeled, it can be disposed of

Sewing Zone

  • buildout this Saturday (also includes Elab)
  • table work is starting soon -- two pattern tables, one ironing table and a sewing desk
  • the AC was working for a few minutes last week when the weather was warmer but it quit twice after a short bit. It flashes an error EL OC which may indicate a possible leak, see the slack discussion for links etc. If someone with knowledge and equipment that can help with heating/cooling can take a look, it would help the space out. With summer coming, it's going to be pretty uncomfortable for people working on the room and then when it opens for use. Plus the climate control is there in part for the equipment.
  • we have a list of several slatwall fixtures to 3D print, if people are interested in helping with that.
    • Jeff would love to help with 3D printing stuff! :D
  • the room will need a camera soon, cameras for expanding zones were approved a year or more ago
    • Want to make sure the cameras are available to be set up and ready to go as soon as the room is up
    • Brian suggests talking to Nate to see if he has cameras available -- may have some that can be used
  • Two task lists on sewing room channel on Slack

Storage Zone

  • Started re-labeling the storage plots near the laser cutters
  • The mezzanine on B-side between Wood Shop and Ceramics is now considered part of the Storage Zone! 🎉
    • We will be working on cleaning it up and making space up there to create a 'short term' / overnight storage area, so people will be able to leave active projects up there instead of out on tables people work on (drying glue-ups, etc.)
    • Note: No Glass Zone materials will be moved until Glass Zone is more set up and ready to take it
  • Discovered last week that someone stuck a razor blade to one of the storage pylons with a magnet. Not sure who did it, because there is no camera that points in that corner. We should probably get a camera to cover this -- would need to discuss with infrastructure, and this requires a vote. Will be added to the agenda for next month.

Tool Crib

Vinyl Zone

  • n/a

Welding Zone

  • There's been a discussion on slack about getting the water working on the CNC plasma Cutter. It needs someone to champion the effort.
    • Consider the CNC plasma cutter as 'down'. It will not be brought online until this is completed, all outstanding work needs to be done first. There's some discussion on Slack about what needs to be done -- sump isn't working, grading needs to be redone / replaced. Check Slack for more details
