Hybrid Meeting Etiquette
- Be excellent.
- Attendance and voting can be found in the #meetings slack channel.
- Please show up early if you are concerned about your audio.
- If there is no one waiting to speak feel free to do so at the next opportunity.
- If there is someone waiting to speak, please say that you are raising your hand in the google call chat. (This will be demonstrated)
- Please refrain from other side conversations, these can be distracting for the rest of the meeting and make it difficult for the chair to keep track of what's going on.
- If you're in the space remember that having a single person speaking at a time is helpful for those attending online.

Usage Hold
Original email from Matt Arnold but wasn't added to a previous agenda.
On multiple recent occasions, the Board has taken an action which is a lighter and more-granular corrective action than a Probation or Ban. A proposed name for it is Usage Hold. The Board discussed putting forward a vote of the membership at the November 4 meeting to formalize this new form of corrective action in the Standing Rules. The idea is for members to lose one or more privileges (zone access, equipment authorization, storage/permitting) if they violate rules.
Section 11, Usage Hold
- A member on a Usage Hold temporarily loses one or more specific usage privileges, such as access to defined zones, equipment, storage areas, or permits, but retains all other member privileges.
- Grounds for a Usage Hold include, but are not limited to, when a member:
- repeatedly misuses or violates the rules of a specific shared affordance
- engages in a pattern of failing to remember, understand, or follow operational procedures tied to particular privileges
- has not engaged in a pattern of conduct judged by the Board of Directors to require Probation or Banning
- A Usage Hold shall be decided by majority vote of the Board of Directors. This does not limit the existing authority of Zone Coordinators to restrict access to their zones, equipment, or resources as part of normal zone governance. A formal Usage Hold would raise it to a board-level action. When placing a member under Usage Hold, the Board of Directors shall specify:
- Which privileges are restricted
- The duration of the restriction and/or the conditions required for reinstatement (e.g. demonstrating understanding of the related policies, presenting procedures to the Board or a Zone Coordinator, or completion of a defined period of compliance)
- Any escalation terms in the event of further violations
- Privileges are not automatically restored when the conditions are met or the duration expires, and may only be restored by majority vote of the Board of Directors. If there is failure to comply with the terms of Usage Hold, or further violations during the probationary period, the Board shall vote to confirm that this has occurred. Upon this determination, the remaining time in the Usage Hold automatically converts to a Probation (see section 9, “Probation”).
- Nate: could risk death by 1000 cuts. If somebody screws up bad enough to do that, maybe best to have another stronger punishment.
- AJ: One of the reasons we're thinking of something like this. Board has been hesitant to put people in probation or ban. This is something in between this.
- Matt: question before is to formalize it. This would add it to the standing rules. The board already does this and will continue to do it. If we don't have it, nothing happens. Or you can get a hold with a vote in favor.
- How do we enforce it?
- Many things at i3 are on the honor system. If you can't abide by it, then you shouldn't be in the space.
- Somebody that uses the zone may know about the issues
- Frank: If you get punished and then you don't abide by it, then that would require a broader form of disciplinary action.
- Generally people were in favor of this proposal

- People are using the printers through proxy
- Nate: All of the printers appeared on his computer
- Stuff happened last Sunday, we continue to aim to work at least weekly and any availability in between. Follow the slack channels (sewing, expansion) for detailed updates. Please remember we're into the wintry season now so there may be hiccups in progress due to weather advisory travels or volunteer illnesses, or the avoidance of such. Be kind and patient. It's going to be great!
- December = tag month! 30 people did not remove their yellow tags and have now been issued red tags. One email went out to i3detroit-announce@googlegroups.com that listed all the red-tagged storage plots. A second, direct email went out to everyone who owned one of those plots informing them they have until Dec 10th to vacate the plot -- storage@i3detroit.org was included on all of the direct emails
- 6 people have gotten back to me already, 1 is no longer using their plot, 2 are resolving their red tags, 1 has gotten an extension to the 14th.
- 2 other people are not active members and cannot have plots claimed anyway
- Yellow tags will be placed in all plots again, and will need to be removed before March (TBD if they'll be placed before this meeting)
- Nate printed out new yellow tags that have a short explanation printed on them! Thank-you, Nate!
