  • Attendance and voting can be found in the #meetings slack channel.
  • Please show up early if you are concerned about your audio.
  • If there is no one waiting to speak feel free to do so at the next opportunity.
  • If there is someone waiting to speak, please say that you are raising your hand in the google call chat. (This will be demonstrated)
  • Please refrain from other side conversations, these can be distracting for the rest of the meeting and make it difficult for the chair to keep track of what's going on.
  • If you're in the space remember that having a single person speaking at a time is helpful for those attending online.

Introductions

What does being excellent at i3 mean

An experienced member explains what being excellent at i3 means to them

  • Paul A: Been a member for 6-7 years. On the board. Being involved in the space: cleaning, attending meetings. This meeting has maybe 1/5 of the membership. Most don't show up. This is a great way to be an excellent members.

Experienced Members

  • AJ: Storage zone coordinator, commons coordinator, and on the board.

New Members & Guests

  • Joel S: Finished phases 1 and 2. Loves the space and the people he's met so far. There's more here than he expected! Hoping to find out if his phase 2 has beeb reviewed.
  • David K: Artist interested in 3D printing and wood shop area. On Phase 2.
  • Aaron C: Likes to make cool stuff and seems like a good place to do that. Looking forward to learning about the space!

Show and Tell

  • David - Added some 3D printed inserts to a box to store a basic set of electronic test equipment.
  • AJ: Valentines day cards

Old Business

  • Zone funds have been updated and includes approved funds for 2026. Board meeting minutes about budget details can be found here.
    • Would have been beset rot have an understanding of process and criteria for the funding before submitting an application for the funds. Having a budget to be distributed to zones beforehand would've been good to have that. When doing a budget exercise, it usually involves setting aside a number.
    • Good feedback for next year

Outstanding Action Items

  • None. Standing rules have been updated with new usage hold rule.

Other notes:

I've been in contact with other maker spaces about having a get together @ i3 or other space to compare ideas. One of the other people has responded with this event in march:

New Security Camera for the Fiber Laser and Relocation of current laser camera

Proposal

Proposal Text:
Proposal to add one security cameras per the security camera policy to monitor the area for the new fiber laser. Additionally, relocate the current laserzone camera to a position where the view of the lasers are not obstructed by the leather zone/Infrastructure.
Context The new laser is a significant financial investment for the zone. A camera is needed to help with accountability for damage/misuse of the laser. The current camera provides an obstructed view of the laser zone.
Moved by Alex Zurowski, Seconded by Brian

Result: PASS

Paint Zone Camera(s)

Proposal

Proposal Text:
Proposal to add one or two security cameras per the security camera policy to monitor the Paint Zone area.
Context When the metal shop moved out they took the cameras with them so the Paint Zone area currently has zero cameras. There is going to be some rearranging of the zone so camera placement can't be determined yet but no more than two cameras will be needed.

Gratitude Corner

  • Alex: thank you for putting together budget requests for Ceramics Zone, thank you for obtaining the new wedging table, thank you for all the help you've given Paint Zone with getting the new paint booth and setting things up, thank you for the maintenance work you've been doing for the lasers, and thank you for the work you're putting into Glass Zone, getting it set up and removing the flooring and everything else you've been doing, I'm sure I'm missing plenty
  • Frank, Andrew, and Thomas: thank you for all the work you put into Memberfication and helping new members get started. So much of your work is done behind the scenes, but you're the ones who are bringing new members on-board, going through submitted forms and handling the logistics of key fobs and making sure new members know everything they need to, to get started. I really appreciate all the time and effort you put in, and I'm confident everyone else does too, even if they don't realize you're the ones making things happen. i3 quite literally wouldn't exist as it does without you, and we certainly wouldn't be growing in membership like we have.
  • Andrew: thank you for all the work you've been doing as Member Advocate. A lot of it has been behind-the-scenes, trying to get things organized and caught up from when we had a gap in Advocates, so I don't think people realize quite how much you've been doing. It's going to help us maintain a positive environment at i3 going forward, and ensure we're treating everyone fairly.
  • Cathy: Has come onboard and contributed a lot. Has gotten donations and taken on the not small job of paint zone coordinator. Helped Brian with a project.

AJ: Great leadership they've shown in the space.

Zone updates

  • n/a
  • n/a
  • Approved budget of $700 for new wheel. Need to sell Kick Wheel
  • New table is purchased for a base off which to build new wedging table with cutting wire
  • $250 towards slab roller. Need to raise another $250ish
  • Additional funds available for dremel + bits for grinding glaze off kiln shelves and more
  • Zone funds are low so if you've used ceramics lately and haven't donated, consider donating
  • n/a
  • n/a
  • Funds approved for building new tables! Woo!
    • Will start obtaining materials to build first table. After first table is built and confirmed, we'll be looking for help building the other tables! This will require some welding and wood shop use
  • Funds approved for refreshing bulletin board
    • Aj will be checking the current board to see if it's good to use, or if there's too much damage. I could use help getting all the photos on it scanned and digitized somewhere on the wiki to make sure they can't be lost. I'll bring in a folder to keep them safe until we have somewhere new to put them up
    • Once the board is ready to be refreshed, we'll need some paper cutting and printing done. Could potentially use help here, might be a good opportunity to learn how to use the Cricut

  • It has come to Aj's attention that a lot of 'random' stuff is considered part of Commons. Commons has too many things, and cannot take real responsibility for them
    • This includes: the Sandblaster, Pallet Jack, and N2D2 LN2 Dewar (liquid nitrogen thing)
    • Ideally, I would like Commons to not include any active tools / equipment, and to be focused on being a community space -- these things should be under the care of someone who can maintain and use them (and notably, none of them are actually located in Commons Area).
      • So if you're familiar with any of the above and are willing to be the contact for them, or have a better idea of what Zone they should belong to, please let me know!
  • We were allocated funds to purchase a mobile work station cart for the cricut, and funds to get the four color screen printing equipment running.

  • Glass Zone got approved for a good chunk of change for materials, supplies, and build out. Work tables already purchased at auction.
  • We have a discount account now with Delphi Glass for no tax and 15%-30% off their entire inventory.
  • Need help tearing out flooring, building storage and setting up ventilation. Have rough plans.
  • Lots of new electrical needs on b side. Need to map all the panels and see what's available. Anyone interested in doing so feel free to help after the meeting.
  • n/a
  • Approved for funds. Will be used for casting.
  • n/a
  • Approved for new 100w MOPA Fiber Laser. It's been ordered and should arrive in 2 weeks. Please give us time to set up, build exhaust booth, and develop training. Hopefully can have it available for use by late February / Early March.
  • If anyone wants to help set up and learn the machine to become an authorized trainer, it would greatly help as Lew, Alex and Frank are already very busy and train on multiple other machines. Having additional trainers will help a lot.
  • Finally removed the old bookcase.
  • Installed / moved a few more slatwall shelves and slatwall
  • Working on organizing and hanging tools and supplies.
  • n/a
  • Jamie - New Co-ZoCo
  • A lot of stuff that needs get done
  • Will be more updates
  • We have obtained two new to us paint booths that are actually code compliant if installed properly for only $135 total. Therefore we're going to need volunteers to help tear out the old booth and install the new ones. Plans haven't been finalized as to what is going where so it might be a few weeks before we're ready.
  • We are also getting a new powder coating oven this Saturday and will need some help getting it off the truck and put into place. Probably around noon-1:00.
  • We're also discussing possibly installing a rubber curtain wall in the doorways for climate control reasons.
  • Work is ongoing to complete the cutting tables, embroidery desk, and sewing machine desk. We are having some design issues that need working out.
  • We've been working on reupholstering a few chairs.
  • Follow the updates on slack: some things are ready, some are not and it's all explained there.
  • No food or drinks except for personal water bottles like Stanley or similar.
  • It's a clean space -- please help out by sweeping the floor or swiffering. It's pretty much guaranteed we'll need to sweep it out daily if used daily, to keep ahead of the dirt.
  • All users are responsible for cleaning up after themselves.
  • We are still meeting every weekend to finish more stuff. Please join us if you want to help. While some areas are available for use, expansion work may be in your way, and some features may be unavailable. Consider it an active construction space as we progress to the last features and steps.
  • We can have full featured fabric dyeing in the space, from beginning to end, if we have a washer and dryer set. Sewing has been allocated half the amount and we're raising the rest. It will be available for non oily textiles used in the space as well. But not as a laundromat.
  • Funds approved for building tote rack to test tote storage option!
    • Need help obtaining materials for this -- the wood won't fit in Aj's car :(
  • Funds also approved for Storage donation box. Does anyone have the plans / details for the current boxes? I'd like it to match
    • Can probably just take measurements and figure this out too
