Intro
This is a nice little machine donated to us from someone's estate. It appears to have been cared for well, so we should too!
Rules
- No food. No soda or beer cans, coffee cups/mugs, soft drinks/restaurant takeaways. If you have a personal water bottle with lid, there are purple cupholders available that screw on the desk.
- Put your scraps in the thread basket provided on the station's slatwall or in a trash can.
- Sweep the area. There is a broom set and dustpan in the room's cleaning supply corner.
- Use a small serger brush to sweep away fiber dust, then use the small vac nearby to gently suck out accumulated fibers from the machine and on the desk
- Never blow into a machine.
- Never yank thread against the direction it goes (ie NOT backward.)
- If there's a jam, never pull or yank. Gently turn the wheel by hand, snip threads at the needles where necessary to release the fabric, clean out, reinsert needles, and rethread. If frustrated, take a walk. If in doubt, please notify the coordinator if you would like to leave it for assistance later. This too shall pass! But yanking and pulling can turn into damage that we have to pay for later.
Instructions
User manual is provided at the station.
Maintenance Info
Only do what the manual recommends for oiling. It should be vacuumed after each use to keep dust from accumulating.
FAQ
What is this for? Best suited for finished seams inside garments, overlocking edges of fabric for a clean edge, or for sewing knit garments to retain their stretch.
