Summary

There are many ways to construct an epoxy river serving board. This page lists some of the possibilities with a focus on the epoxy aspect and number of instances the class needs to meet.

Types of Epoxy river Boards

1) Opaque epoxy river with Mica powder

  • Class needs to meet twice:
    • once to do the pour and allow the epoxy to cure
    • another time for finishing

2) Transparent epoxy river with optional dye and embedments

  • Class needs to meet three times:
    • once to pour a shallow layer (1/8 to 1/4 depending on thickness of embedments), cure until it gets tacky but not fully cured. This layer will hold the embedments and not let them sink the to the bottom. If it cures completely, it needs to be sanded to allow the second layer to adhere to it
    • once to add embedments and finish epoxy pour
    • last session to finish

A variation of this technique is using embedments that float. Those will need to be attached to the bottom layer using glue or a 5-minute epoxy, let that cure, then apply the top layer.

3) Beach wave or other pattern epoxy boards

Not really a river epoxy board, but listed here to reduce potential confusion.

    • This is a different type of class altogether, which we may offer in the future. This only requires one active session to do the pour, and then pick up after the epoxy is cured. Not covered by existing classes as of 3/31/2025
