Sewing 101: Using a Sewing Machine

Learn how to use a sewing machine! Bring your own or borrow one of ours. Skills taught include how to thread and clean the machine, read a manual, and use a variety of stitches applicable for any project. Not content to leave it at that, I will teach you how to push your skills further on your own! You will be producing a souvenir sewing “sampler” which you will take home with you.

Class fee (suggested donation):
$5 — Members
$10 — Non-Members using one of our machines

Fridays, September 22 & October 6 @ 6:30 in the classroom
Six maximum, more if attendees bring their own machine

i3Detroit 10th Anniversary Open House

i3Detroit is 10 years old this year! On Sunday, March 24, 2019, we will be hosting an Open House from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM to celebrate. The event is free to the public and will feature tours and demonstrations of woodworking, machining, 3D printing, sewing, electronics, injection molding, leatherwork, ceramics and glasswork, laser cutting and robotics.

Sewing 101: Can I Even Machine?

If you’ve got the bare basic knowledge, come learn how to use one of our basic sewing machines. Learn how to thread and clean the machine, read the manuals, and a variety of stitches that you can use with any project — and how to push your skills further. Suggested donation to Sewing Zone of $5 includes supplies for a sewing “sampler.”

Learn the basic ideas behind sewing and textile/garment construction. Includes basic stitches, fasteners like buttons and snaps, and cutting techniques. You get supplies for a sewing “sampler.” Suggested donation to Sewing Zone $5.
