Maker Faire 2012: After Party i3:photobooth

Over the weekend was this years Detroit Maker Faire.

We built, Make and Partied the weekend away!

On friday creators spent the day at i3 putting the finishing touches on their creations, while others prepared for the party saturday night. The space was spotless as a dedicated group stayed over night and constructed a photo booth which became a huge success at the party.

i3Detroit’s PowerWheels teams took 1st(#3) and 3rd(#13-Sean’s car) in the endurance race Sunday. Saturday, i3 took 1st in the 15 lap road course. There is a “YES”(1st place) medal that has been added to the trophy cabinet. For the Power Racing Series, Detroit was weekend 2 of 3, so we head to Chicago next weekend and hopefully all kick some butt to bring home so real trophies!

The party may not have won any awards this year, but we still had fun!! El Guapo taco truck came out, as did Treat Dreams, and Meed by B nektar to help party the night away.  Sunday at least 5 projects from i3 walked away with editor choice ribbons.

Open Shop Pumpkin Costume carving Friday 28th 7pm

Open shop Friday this week will be filled with pumpkins, sharp objects and last minute costume creations.

Come check out the space before the party this weekend and join in on the fun of decorating the space, carving/painting a pumpkin or coming up with that last piece for your costume!

I will have a few supplied pumpkins to carve but not many, so bring one along,   also we’ll save the seeds and have someone bake them up for the party!  So the more we do the more seeds we’ll have to nom on Ssaturday!!

Halloween Party 2011, OCT 29, 7pm

We’ve got quite an event lined up.  Halloween is fast approaching, and if there’s one thing nerds like to do, it’s wear nerdy costumes.  JOIN UP! CHECK-IN, RSVP, YELPSQUARETWEETLURBOOK or whatever you kids do these days.  Just fill up all the internet tubes! yadda yadda. Spam this out to your friends.

We’ll have some phat beats dropping and mad costumes.  We’ll also entertain serious discussions about how awesome Jurassic Park was, your favorite molecule, and hopefully… HOPEFULLY someone does the ninja rap, Go ninja go ninja GO!

The thing that makes this event extra exciting is it coincides with Ted’s 40th birthday. This means two things for you: free booze (thanks Ted!), and an excuse to heckle an old man about his age, you ungrateful people!

To cap it all off, we’ll be making ice cream with liquid nitrogen. Yeah, you read that right.  LIQUID.NITROGEN. Insanely fast, insanely cold. What more do you need to know? Go get your calendar right now and put a big ol’ circle in the shape of a pumpkin around the 29th!

Come Party With i3Detroit Tonight!!!

Ferndale, MI – i3 Detroit, Metro Detroit’s premiere community hackerspace, will be recognizing its one year anniversary at its Ferndale location with a public celebration and ceremony today, April 9th, 2011 at 6 pm.

The 8,000 square-foot workshop has provided an ideal location for hosting classes and events for the community. Events held in the last year include introductions to welding, metal-casting, air brush, soldering, painting and even how to make home-brew soda.

The new location has also allowed its members to work on larger-scale projects using more advanced equipment. The space now boasts a growing wood and machine shop, a fabrication lab with access to laser and vinyl cutters, a chemistry lab, a bicycle repair area, an electronics room and a craft room, as well as other areas that encourage collaboration and creativity.

The event is open to the public with tool and project demonstrations.
