Ann Marie's Proposal For Jewelry, Ceramics, and Wood Zone Arrangement - retracted

This involves discussion between Ann Marie, Sabrina Good, and Tim Clayson, over the rearrangement of the boundaries between their three zones (Jewelry, Ceramics, and Wood, respectively). See the attached map images of the current arrangement and Ann Marie's proposed arrangement.

Ann Marie's proposal is that the corner of those two walls be changed from the ceramics zone to the jewelry zone, so that she can bring in her $5,000 metal casting equipment which is only suited to that location. Tim Clayton suggested that the ceramic kiln remain where it is and be vented to the window, using ducts which he volunteered to help install.

Tim told Ann Marie that he is willing for Ceramics to use the wall of the current wood shop, closest to the kiln zone. See the attached photo. He specified a line that lines up with the second "bump" that you can see on the floor plan (indicated with a red arrow in the attached photo). He said the wood shop is large enough to afford to give up a small amount of space such as this, especially given that the canoe is now hoisted to the ceiling. However, he specified that the orange wood milling machine cannot move even an inch because there is something special that it needs from that specific outlet in the corner.

Tim's clarification of Woodshop understanding and usage of space.

I do not agree with the proposed floor plan modifications to Jewelry, Ceramics and Woodshop as represented in the current agenda. The ceramics zone, as represented in the drawing, encroaches much too far into the wood zone. I offered to provide some space along the wall and move the existing woodshop file cabinets. The space I'm willing to make available cannot exceed the depth (approx 30 in) of the current cabinets that are there. The CNC machine cannot be moved and there needs to be workspace around the CNC machine. Further, I would like it understood and in Board minutes, that any additional space wood zone provides is "on loan" and not a permanent change. I want to reserve the right to recover the space in the future. For example if we ever acquire a full size CNC machine. That's likely a few years off, so I don't mind offering the space now. Further, when I made the offer to use the space, there was no discussion of mothballing or moving the glass zone. If that zone is mothballed or moved, it seems an equivalent amount of space would be made available and no need to use woodshop space. So I would like to see a decision regarding glass zone before freeing up woodshop space.

Ann Marie and Sabrina Good's combined proposal of Nov 19

[Proposal for floor plan and venting solution for the border of the footprint between jewelry, ceramic, glass, and wood shop]

This vector art is based on a drawing from Ann Marie, so it shows the jewelry zone equipment and kilns, but not most of the ceramic zone. Sabrina was consulted about the drawing, but declined to add ceramic zone equipment to this image, saying that she can just show us.
