This zone is currently an amalgamation of existing parts of the space that now have a single point of contact. A result of this is that there is no picture of the zone that would not also include all the other zones as the power conduits themselves are managed by this zone even as they worm their way into every crack and crevice. Another aspect of this zone is that there is very little that needs to be centrally located here on the wiki, most of the items have their own page or subcategory and these will be cleaned up but generally left to themselves and links to them consolidated here.
One of the responsibilities of the Infrastructure Zone is maintaining the Security Cameras and approved reviewers thereof.

The question frequently comes up why we don't do certain things. The answer given is usually 'it's not allowed', 'fire marshall said', or 'against our certificate of occupancy'. All of these are bad answers. The real answers comes from code that is not cited in the terse answers that are used to shut down people trying to do cool things. This is where we can keep track of reasons why we can't do things with sources cited so we can know when we meet the requirements to do the cool things.
Fire code stuff
The fire marshal can modify fire code "when there are practical difficulties in the way of carrying out the strict letter of the code; provided that the spirit of the code shall be observed, public safety secured, and substantial justice done."
|Wood shop||If the woodshop area is 2500 square feet or larger it needs a sprinkler system. Sprinkler systems are expensive, you have to pull a permit to connect directly to the city water line and the permit alone is at least $15,000 depending on where you're connecting to and what other lines are around that you have to avoid. Note that the code only says this matters if we're fire group F-1, which would mean a bunch of other issue for us in terms of sprinklers and stuff unless we build that wall.

According to the international fire code, fire group F1-1 needs:

- fire area exceeds 12,000 sq ft; 1115m^2
- woodworking in fire area over 2500 sq ft 232 m^2
- Combined fire areas in entire building, including mezzanines exceeds 24,000 sq ft 2230 m^2
- fire area more than 50,000 sq ft 4645 m^2
- fire wall: external wall
- fire barrier: internal wall

Fire barrier definition: international building code 707
Fire group f1-1 needs a 3 hour barrier, made of "materials permitted by the building type of construction"
Openings can be less than 25% of the width of the wall
Doors and stuff have code requirements

air ducts: IBC section 717.5.2
- We need "approved" fire dampers in the ducts unless
- Penetrations are tested in accordance with ASTM E 119 or UL 263 as part of the fire-resistance-rated assembly.
- Ducts are used as part of an approved smoke control system in accordance with Section 909 and where the use of a fire damper would interfere with the operation of a smoke control system.
Eric Merrill talked to a previous fire marshal in 2011, who said that he would count the current wall as a fire barrier, but we would need to fire rate the windows up top and the doorways. The easiest way to do the top would be to build wood frames and put 2 layers of drywall over it.
